The Children in Conflict Exhibition opened on 24 November 2007.
11 Contemporary artists responded to the theme of conflict and the devastating impact it has on children around the world.
John Keane, renound painter of war images, travelled with Christian Aid to Angola where millions of young people struggle to build lives in the wake of 40 years of conflict. In a series of beautifully symbollic paintings, Keane depicts life amongst a landscape of minefields, buildings bearing the scars of war and shanty towns.
Other works include photography from Simon Norfolk and Guy Tillim, video from Monika Oesheler, ceramics by Emma Summers and a textile installation by Laura Ford.
The exhibition opened at Wolverhampton Art Gallery in November 2007. Luis Samacumbi, an ex-child soldier who now manages community projects in Angola gave a talk about his experiences and there were art activities for young people.
The exhibition is now on tour around the UK. From 14 April to 20 June 2008, it will be at the Drumcroon Gallery in Wigan. Between 13 September and 15 November 2008, it will be at Aberdeen Art Gallery.
