Zoe Oputah, a 15-year-old from south Bermondsey in London has been chosen as the winner of the Harmonise competition!
Christian Aid and Rockhill music received entries from all over the UK, but Zoe's talent shone through at the final held in May 2008.
Zoe's prize will be to work with professional musicians to record a track that will be included on the album Acoustic Gospel Volume II. She will also perform at national events to mark the launch of the album and act as a youth ambassador for Christian Aid at events throughout 2009.
As a member of the World Evangelical Choir in Bermondsey and youth choir RaRe, Zoe has been singing since the age of seven. But she saw the competition as a way to expand her experience and have a positive impact on other people.
Zoe explains, 'I entered the competition firstly as a challenge for myself. I knew that I'd probably be the youngest person there with the least experience, but I saw that as a positive thing, a tool I could use to build up myself as a performer and minister'.
Zoe's prize will also contribute to helping some of the poorest people in the world through Christian Aid's work, by acting as one of our youth ambassadors. And £1.50 from the sale of each CD will be used to improve the lives of children in Africa through a variety of Christian Aid funded projects.
Acoustic Gospel Volume II will be out in November 2008 and will be available from high street retailers including HMV and Wesley Owen, and online at Acoustic Gospel.
Don't forget to keep an eye on our events pages to see when Zoe will be appearing at an event near you!
