
A responsible global citizen is an individual with rights and responsibilities whose actions are based on their developing beliefs and values, and who has a relationship with others within inter-dependent local, national and global communities.
Model: Educating for responsible global citizenship
The model shown below presents a continuous cycle in which the student is always building on the previous stage of experience and learning.
A responsible global citizen:
• enquires and has knowledge and understanding of beliefs and teachings, practices, processes and lifestyles at local, national and global levels (RE/RS/RME)
• enquires and has knowledge and understanding of economic and political institutions and values at local, national and international levels (Citizenship)
• reflects and thinks about, discusses and debates topical, political, spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues (RE/RS/RME)
• reflects and thinks about, discusses and debates topical, political, spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues (Citizenship)
• identifies by developing and expressing personal values and commitments (RE/RS/RME)
• identifies by developing and justifying personal opinions about issues, situations and events (Citizenship)
• acts inwardly and outwardly in response to events and people in ways that express personal values and identity (RE/RS/RME)
• acts by negotiating, deciding and taking part responsibly in community activities at local, national and global levels (Citizenship).
