Key question

What is beautiful about the universe and how do we look after it?

 

 

Learning objectives

Through this unit, students learn to:

• become aware of, and consider, what is beautiful about the universe

• develop a sense of our humanity across the world, and of common experience

• become aware that for many, belief in God as creator is grounded in experiences of beauty and pattern in the universe

• develop an awareness of pattern and order, and consider its place in their lives

• consider how the environment can be spoilt and the part that everyone plays in caring for environments

• reflect on their feelings about environments

• associate order and caring with the natural world.

Activities

Ask students to:

• make a collection of natural objects and discuss the beauty of the patterns

• reflect on the experience of sunrise and the path of the sun experienced by everyone in the world

• make a pattern out of Lego pieces or farm animals

• tell the Genesis story and demonstrate its pattern

• discuss photos or pictures of tidy/untidy classrooms or streets and what they can do to put order into their surroundings.
