Assembly of the month: One potato, two potato, three potato, more!
Theme: sustainable development, farming, health
Country: Bolivia
Harvesting potatoes in Bolivia

Did you know that 2008 is the Year of the Potato?

In the UK and Ireland we eat potatoes in all different shapes and forms - roasted, mashed, chips, crisps - and they are an important part of most people's diet.

But for many people in Bolivia, potatoes are their main source of food and vital for surivial.

12 year old Walter Gutierrez Sursusa helps look after his family's potato crop. With a bit of expert help from Christian Aid partner CIPE, Walter and his family have been able to grow other vegetables as well as potatoes and now have a more balanced diet.

This assembly explores the issues of sustainable farming and how a little bit of help - and a worm or two - can make a huge difference to communities.

Coming soon: classroom activities to complement this assembly will be added for use at Harvest Time.
